Qualification for the World Match Play Championship

Entry to the World Match Play tournament is not a straight forward one but is quite a fair one and rewards those golfers that are on top of their current game. Beginning in 2009, the qualification criteria for the championship will be as follows:

  • Defending champion. (Ernie Els)
     
  • The leading player, based upon their nationality, listed on the Official World Golf Ranking, from each of the following regions:
     
    1. Europe Africa/Middle East
    2. North America
    3. South America
    4. Asia
    5. Australasia
       
  • The leading 4 players (not otherwise qualified) from the Official World Golf Ranking.
     
  • The leading 4 players (not otherwise qualified) from The European Tour Order of Merit.
     
  • The Volvo China Open champion.

The seeds for the event  will be determined by the players Official World Golf Ranking.
