World Matchplay Prize Fund Breakdown
The world match play championship tournament had a major shakeup in 2003, HSBC was brought on board as the official sponsor and the prize fund was greatly increased, with the winners prize raised to £1 million, which in 2003 was the largest in world golf events. The last player to win this amount was Ernie Els who is one of the most prolific world match players in world match play history. World ranking points were also allocated to the event and the championship became an official money European Tour Order of Merit event, the event has now been sponsored by Volvo and the prize fund has been adjusted.
2009 Prize Fund Breakdown
The prize money fund for the 2009 Volvo World Match Play Championship will be a total of €3,250,000 (£2,580,706) divided as follows:

- 2nd €450,000 (£357,338)
- 3rd €250,000 (£198,521)
- 4th €200,000 (£158,817)
- Runner up in group €150,000 (£119,125)
- 3rd in Group €130,000 (£103,242)
- 4th in Group €120,000 (£95,293)
